I commenced this New Year 2010 with a product that will make cooking in the home enjoyable for mothers, housewives, women and food industries in general. I call it Cooking Companion. I am not talking of soup activities. I’m talking about how to produce quality kerosene stove wick.

Marketability

Let us consider our population. There is no home or food industry in Nigeria today without kerosene stove. If they don’t have now, I am sure it is part of their 2010 resolution to have one. Using kerosene stove as a means of cooking is approved by the government all over the world. Health wise it is save.

The wick is an important part of the kerosene stove that needs replacement from time to time. For your information, there is no substitute for this. There is another area I want you to see why the kerosene wick will continue to sell. Let’s do a small calculation, if you go to a face-me-I-face-you kind of building with 10 rooms apartment of family of 4 living in a room and they have to cook with kerosene stove, now consider the numbers of this type of houses on a street of 30 houses, that means we are going to have 300 kerosene stoves. All these will need a replacement of wick for their stoves anytime they burn out the existing one.

The restaurants, ‘bukas’ and ‘mama put’ are not left, they also use kerosene stove for cooking. They burn out their stove wick faster than those who use it domestically because the stove works 24/7. This is due to the kind of business they do. And don’t be deceived; kerosene stove wick consumption cuts across every strata of the society. Both the rich and poor need it.

Profitability

You can start the production from your bedroom with less than =N=50,000. This includes machine, equipments and raw materials to take off. With the machine, you will produce 1,200 quality kerosene stove wicks in 8 hrs of production. 12 wicks is what a stove needs to function, and sold at the rate of N35 per pack of 12 wicks, six working days in a week will give you N21,000.
